Silly People

The distinction he makes is the last sentence which says "For in the Brave New World was not that they were laughing instead of thinking. but that they did not know what they were laughing about and why they had stopped thinking."  This ending quote primary focal point is understanding and distinguishing from true knowledge to laughing like a rambling idiot who has no knowledge of the matter or joke at hand.  This compares to the few intellectual people who understand the content and laugh knowingly instead of unknowingly.  This also proves Postman's premise throughout the book of how our people are becoming a mindless people due to the dependence of technology and television in our world today.  By Postman's quote laughing, he is proving to the audience that the severity of not knowing can cause you to not only become confused of why your laughing, but also not knwoing why you stopped thinking!

I Could Never Take A Vow A Silence.

Friday's experience was exactly that, an experience. It was very difficult taking out something in your life that you are so accustomed to.  It was a good experience though to help teach what Postman tried is trying to preach to the world of technology.

In U.S. history class Ms. Haupt asked us what media portrays teenage life of today.  I had to charade and draw out my opinion which was "The Secret Life Of The American Teenager." I drew a picture of a pregnant girl and some thought i was trying to say "The Biggest Loser", others "Teen Mom".  This was very frusterating as well as hilarious trying to make them understand what i wanted to get across. Now I understand why babies bite when they are first learning to talk, its very frusterating! i was ready to bite some people myself!!!

The mail carrier. (A.K.A. Mr. Postman)

Neil Postman's main purpose in his video and book was to show to the public on how much media and technology is relied upon. The mere name of the novel reveals the world of today.  He writes in his book how people do not care of old time values examples such as talking at the dinner table but how this ideal concept is being replaced with t.v. dinners and these crucial family bonding times are becoming scarce. Neil Postman's primary focus is that humans are slowly becoming pets to their technology.  He is trying to show the dependency of these devices by the modern world. Just like pets are dependent on their owners we are becoming to our technological world.

samrau

Semrau's point is to conserve, reuse, and recycle everything, including yourself and body parts. The way Semrau keeps information from the reader definitely helps the intent of the essay and makes it more clear at the end. By taking what would otherwise be a normal recycling topic and then engaging you to a much deeper level on the subject Samrau keeps your attention focused on what’s at hand. Conserve, reuse, and recycle are the main words of the article with reuse being the author's favorite. You have to read further into the story to realize what he is talking about. Many people probably wonder how he is going from reusing to his bones, when he is actually talking about his body. For most people, this idea and practice is disgusting and a lot of people aredo not agree with it. But the way he writes that makes the essay and theme unknown by giving little information, it doesn’t directly tell them the main point, but makes them think a little more about it and gives them a positive effect

Angels We Have Heard on High

This hymn is based on Jesus' birth, a christmas song.  It discusses how the people want a savior to come and to guide us to what is right and to make earth his home. It also discusses that Jesus' birth was not of a human conception but of a miraculous and heavenly one of a virgin so he would not be conceived of a sinful nature.  This hymn discusses the actual birth as well how the angels praised him. How he conquered death and hell and returned to his father's home. He did this becuase he loved and saves us.
Luther uses pathos in this song in a variety of ways especially in his word choice of the verses. In verse 2 it says that Christ was not given to us by man but by our God who loves us so much that he would sacrifice son for us. This should make us feel heartwarmed and loved by God the Father. In verse 5 you can also see pathos by God not giving his son but his only son for us. Luther uses pathos to draw our emotions into the song by showing how much God loved us and how Jesus conquered death and hell for us.

Sermon

1. 19

2. makes holy, slain, is, died, was, slain, took sin, lives again, slain, died, died, rose, makes, reign, lives

3. From the sermon in the hands of an angry God, the main purpose of the sermon is to scare the Puritans into fearing God so they would believe in him and scare the Puritans into not doing anything wrong. The sermon that we heard was very contrasted from the idea and preached that God is a loving God and Jesus was sent to Earth to forgive our sins and to be sacrificed for us.

Mirror Dangles

In this article it discusses whether or not to ban the law on hanging dangling items from your rear-view mirror.  There are so many people that hang "dangleys" from their mirror that it shouldn't be illegal.  People that have been pulled over and ticketed for a seperate reason, havent gotten in trouble for their mirror accessories.  Some people thought it was only illegal to have things hung in their rear-view mirror if it was distracting.

"I call it a 'gotcha' law. It's an excuse to pull someone over." This is my favorite quote becuase it is true. In this economy police still have to make their quota of tickets and this is just another excuse for a ridiculous ticket.  This law gives police a reason to ticket someone when their bored and can't think of a better ticket to give them.

I disagree with this ban. Almost everyone that i know hangs an object in their rearview mirror.  If the object is not obstructing their view, then what harm is being done? People should have the right to decorate their car as long as it doesn't put them or others at risk.

Racism?

Alboms point is Americans love Lebron James because he is black.
I disagree with Albom because if he was white or black, he would still be an amazing basketball player, but LeBron didn't become internationally famous with only black fans liking him, and he didn't reach this sudden infamy with only white fans bailing out is his most convincing argument. He is trying to say that only black fans made him famous and onyl white fans helped him out.
