From the sermon in the hands of an angry God, the main purpose of the sermon is to scare the Puritans into fearing God so they would believe in him and scare the Puritans into not doing anything wrong. The sermon that we heard was very contrasted from the idea and preached that God is a loving God and Jesus was sent to Earth to forgive our sins and to be sacrificed for us.
