Silly People
The distinction he makes is the last sentence which says "For in the Brave New World was not that they were laughing instead of thinking. but that they did not know what they were laughing about and why they had stopped thinking." This ending quote primary focal point is understanding and distinguishing from true knowledge to laughing like a rambling idiot who has no knowledge of the matter or joke at hand. This compares to the few intellectual people who understand the content and laugh knowingly instead of unknowingly. This also proves Postman's premise throughout the book of how our people are becoming a mindless people due to the dependence of technology and television in our world today. By Postman's quote laughing, he is proving to the audience that the severity of not knowing can cause you to not only become confused of why your laughing, but also not knwoing why you stopped thinking!
