This hymn is based on Jesus' birth, a christmas song. It discusses how the people want a savior to come and to guide us to what is right and to make earth his home. It also discusses that Jesus' birth was not of a human conception but of a miraculous and heavenly one of a virgin so he would not be conceived of a sinful nature. This hymn discusses the actual birth as well how the angels praised him. How he conquered death and hell and returned to his father's home. He did this becuase he loved and saves us.
Luther uses pathos in this song in a variety of ways especially in his word choice of the verses. In verse 2 it says that Christ was not given to us by man but by our God who loves us so much that he would sacrifice son for us. This should make us feel heartwarmed and loved by God the Father. In verse 5 you can also see pathos by God not giving his son but his only son for us. Luther uses pathos to draw our emotions into the song by showing how much God loved us and how Jesus conquered death and hell for us.
